Steps to Building a Dynamic Childrens & Family Ministry Children\s Ministry YouthRegardless of how long we’ve been engaged in ministry – Rookie – Experienced – Veteran – Each of us are in the midst of a never-ending process. We are constantly in a state of evaluation, planning and construction. We must be aware of trends in children’s ministry, be effective in recruiting and training volunteers, and determine our next steps. So, let’s take a look at some basic questions and answers.

1. What? – Set Objectives and Priorities

Create a plan or roadmap for what we desire to create? This is the beginning of creating something beneficial to all.

2. Why? – Ministry Evaluation

Take an honest look at all of the existing programs and events that are currently a part of the ministry. Now ask the question “Why do we do what we do?”  As you evaluate, determine the goals you wish to achieve and the purpose for each event. Write these down and keep them posted in a prominent place.

3. Who? – 3 Potential Audiences

Non-Churched – Is the ministry welcoming? Do we get outside the walls?

Christians – How will we make disciples? Are we stimulating Spiritual Growth?

Parents – How will we connect with parents? How will we encourage parents?

4. How much?

Working within a budget will be crucial to our success.  Proper distribution of the available funds and raising additional funds is a key component. Determine what funds you have available and what are the basic elements you need for success.  If additional funds are required then take the steps necessary to request, acquire or raise the funds needed.
