There aren’t any rules for success that will work unless you do
I’ve discovered ten phrases that can and will change our lives if we apply them. The next few articles will continue to cover some of these truths and hopefully give you a reason to think for a change as well.
In previous issues we have covered 1. All success or failure in life is based on two things, the people you meet and the books you read. 2. Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. 3. It’s not how much you make it’s how much you keep. And now, 4. There aren’t any rules for success that will work unless you do.
Do you know what burns my bottom? A flame about 30 inches high! But seriously, what really gets me stirred up is someone who believes some people are just lucky and fall into success. I’ve yet to meet anyone who is that lucky. Even when I do meet someone that may appear to be getting everything handed to them I take a deeper look and see the work involved. WARNING, I’m about to get on my soap box. When did the shift in thinking occur that makes teenagers believe they deserve to be a rich rock star for NO REASON AT ALL? I believe it’s MTV that did it. A kid is sitting around the house watching nothing but other people living their dreams on tv. But wait, it doesn’t appear that they did any work to get there so why should I. Mom, Dad, I want my MTV stardom and I want it now. Caution, I’m getting off my soap box now.
Maybe you’ve heard it said, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” Yep, it’s a good saying and stated everytime we lose something we want. But here is a better way to say it, “It’s not what you know but what you do the counts.” Ah, now that’s the truth. Let’s think for a change. If the person who apparently knows someone gets the job and can’t keep it, what good was it to know them? Sure, it may take a little time for them to lose the job or maybe it will just crush the company from within, but the end result is, IT’S WHAT YOU DO THAT COUNTS IN LIFE. So what are you doing?
Are you booking lots of well paying shows? No. Did you advertise and market for well paying shows? Are you working smart instead of hard in your marketing plan?
Are you living in the home of your dreams, driving the car you like, eating the good stuff? No. Are you managing your money properly so you can afford your dreams or are you buying the first thing you see and then not having money for the real dream? Saving money is also a form of work.
Are you making friends with people who will book you or recommend you? No. Why not, you’re a nice fellow/gal, what is stopping you from saying hello?
