I was going through this church a few months ago and I saw this banner that read “Show Kids God’s Love”. This thought has been racing through my mind and has impacted the way that I have looked at my job as a children’s pastor and even as a parent.
My goal is to have kids and families that I minister too… see God’s love show through me as I work alongside of families. We minister to children who come from single parents, divorced parents, blended families and even those that live with their Grandparents. They way that we correct them and discipline them can hinder the way they view the church and even how they view God. I made this statement once when I was a teenager I blurted out “I don’t have time for God” My Sunday school teacher looked at me then replied with a finger point “Well God doesn’t have time for you.”
I viewed God as someone who didn’t have time for me when I was foolish to think that I had not time for him. This thought that God doesn’t have time for me truly impacted who I thought God was and I didn’t want to spend time with someone who didn’t have time for me. The thought that I want to ask all of you is what are you doing to “Show Kids God’s love”. Are you showing them the unconditional love? Are you encouraging them when they are discouraged? Are you there for them in their time of need?
My job is to show kids God’s love and this very same thought I want to encourage all of my volunteers to focus on the fact that we have an opportunity every week to show kids the love of God.
