A WOW! Experiance

A WOW! ExperianceThe experience of our guests each week can have a dramatic effect on our growth.  Walt Disney was the master at exceeding the expectations of his guests.  We have the most important message in the world and yet too often we don’t do the little extra that it would take to make a guest’s experience at our church memorable.

Are you Smiling? It’s such simple thing that it can be overlooked.  What is our face saying to others on Sunday morning?  Does our face express joy to those that see us?  I know that often we can be thinking of other things or we’re stressed about situations.  However, we need to remember that our face is a billboard.  What are we communicating?  Smile!

It’s Not Polite to Point! The Home Depot has a policy that requires their employees to take you to your destination in the store rather that just point.  What a great impression it can make on our guests when we personally escort them to where they desire to go in our building.  It’s an excellent habit to develop.

Be a Problem Solver! Walt Disney again sets the example with the notion that every employee at a Disney Park has the authority to be a problem solver.  In the book “The Disney Way” it describes how every Disney employee has the authority and responsibility to address a guest’s concerns and find a solution.  WOW! What if every one of our volunteers took on the same mentality and went out of their way to help when a guest has an issue?  Give your leaders the authority and the responsibility.

It’s not a Doctor’s Office! Don’t make ‘em wait.  The worst thing about going in for a Doctor’s appointment is knowing that I’ll be waiting well beyond my scheduled time to see the Doctor.  Why is that acceptable?  When a new family comes to our church we have a process for registering their children.  One of our goals is to make this process as quick and painless as possible.  Keep things moving and provide staff to assist in the process.

We have an opportunity every Sunday to create a WOW! experience for new families.  How are we doing?

I want to thank you so much for taking the time to make this post — I, for one, appreciate it! Hearing someone else’s point of view gives me pause to consider. Anyway, thanks again and I’ll be back for more!
