HandsHoldingBibleAs a member of the pastoral team one of our number one priorities is to serve our Senior/Lead Pastor.  Those of us that serve in positions other than the lead pastor should always recognize and remember our obligation to support and encourage our pastor.  With that in mind and continuing Top Ten Week, here are the Top Ten Ways to Serve Your Pastor.

Pray for Him

It sounds so simple and elementary yet it is the most powerful thing we can do.  Make it a priority and something done daily.

Know His Heart

Ask about dreams and passions, listen closely. We can become so focused on our own ministry that we lose sight of what’s important to our pastor.

Support His Vision

Of course we should know the churches Vision Statement and be supportive.  Go beyond that and know specifically how God is speaking into your pastor’s life.

Encourage Him

Specific, positive affirmation is extremely beneficial.  Share how he has helped with your spiritual growth.

Exceed His Expectations

A job description should just be the beginning.  When we are passionate about our calling it drives us to be creative and do above and beyond.

Be a Problem Solver

We all recognize when there is a problem; the key is how we respond.  Look for ways to solve the problem and be part of the solution.

Shut Down Gossip

James 1:26 says, “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.”

We should never give ear to complainers and should always stand up for our pastor when others make negative remarks.

Show Him Respect

Respect his time, respect his talents, and respect his position.

Submit to His Leadership

“Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” Hebrews 13:17

Build Him Up to the Congregation

Take every opportunity to praise your pastor is the presence of others.   Commend him for his vision, passion and leadership.

Serving on a church staff is a both a calling and a privilege.  Recognizing our position as a member of a team with one leader is critical to the success of that team.  We should be excited about working with and supportive of our Pastor recognizing God has placed us with him.
